I have been doing tiles since late 1999 and am mostly self-taught. In the beginning I had some help from famous handmade tile
artist and author of "Handmade Tiles," Frank Giorgini, professor of Architectural Tile Design at New York City's Parsons School
of Design.
After I learned the basics, I also took a tilemaking course taught by Karim Motawi of Motawi Tileworks in Ann Arbor to sharpen
my plaster moldmaking skills. His sister (the head Motawi in their company) learned the art of tile making in the early 90's
at the historic Pewabic Pottery in Detroit MI (one of the first art tile potteries in the USA).
My own artisan pottery tile pedigree and designs reflect my trademark whimsy and love of animals.
Tiles are glazed with subtle background desert colors and treated with a very traditional tile-making technique, a black wash,
which gives them an antiqued quality. It really brings out all the character of real handmade tiles, desirably showing every
crack and crevice. They are high fired and are suitable for use indoors or out. Each tile (except accent and border tiles)
are crafted with a traditional indentation in back for display on its own. Please allow 2-3.5 weeks for custom-made tile
orders (new designs) and approximately 2.5 weeks for tile orders of existing designs.
NOTE: I am always adding dog breed/animal designs so if you have a suggestion, do not hesitate to contact me!
I plan to learn installation of tiles someday soon, so if you have a big project (kitchen, shower, vet office, doggie daycare,
grooming shop, whatever) let me know and I will work with you!
